Public sales of Contemporary art are still modest in Singapore where, in 2011, art auctions only generated total revenue of $4.4m versus, for example, $11m in France. However, the city-state has made a huge impact on the global art scene with its Art Stage art fair, the second edition of which ended on 15 January 2012.

Contemporary sculpture in excellent shape

In the contemporary art field, sculpture, and particularly the offshoot known as 'installations', is currently enjoying a high level of market interest. At the top end, collectors are now paying tens of millions of dollars for monumental works by the likes of Koons, Hirst and Murakami. In less than a year, the number of 7-figure (sometimes 8 ...) auction sales involving three dimensional works has substantially increased. In 2007, 14 works sold for over a million dollars; in the first six months of 2008, we are already at 18...

Contemporary art market: results from the spring/summer season of 2006

This month the European art market will gyrate to the rhythm of the contemporary art fairs, with the Frieze Art Fair starting 12 October in London and then the Paris FIAC on 26 October and Art Cologne on 1 November. At the same time, the auction houses will capitalise on these events by organising major concurrent sales of contemporary art.

The Lyon Contemporary Art Biennial in numbers

The 8th Contemporary Art Biennial in Lyon is open to the public from 14 September to 31 December 2005. Entitled "Expérience de la Durée", this year's event exhibits the work of 61 artists and includes 25 pieces commissioned by the organisers. This collection will essentially be displayed at 5 different locations: La Sucrière, the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Institute of Conteporary Art at Villeurbanne, le Rectangle and fort Saint-Jean.

To this end, Artprice has identified the contemporary artist (born after 1940) who has generated the highest revenue at auction in each of the world's principal art markets.

June: a veritable marathon for aficionados of contemporary art

This year the month of June is offering art collectors and dealers an extremely busy schedule of artistic gatherings across Europe. The key events are the Venice Biennale, and the Basel Art Fair.
The 51st Venice Biennale will open to professionals on 9 June and to the public on 12 June. In 2003, the 50th edition of this magnificent exhibition of contemporary art attracted more than 260,000 visitors.
